Hope everyone is well.
Very up and down week on poker and sports betting. Have recovered to a certain degree but saturday is always my busiest day and lots of fancies today.
Have bubbled or close to it a few times on mansion's $100k this week, been playing ok but have made a few mistakes that have cost me.
Sew'n'So Character is worth an eway bet in the 7.15 at haydock tonight people around 16-1 as i type.
I have added my referal code to the links section of my site, so if you do decide to sign up with mansion, do so by setting up a raketorake account and mentioning my details. Any questions leave me a comment and i will respond , this will get you 36% rakeback which is a good deal imo.
All the best to everyone.

So Near Yet So Far
Apologies for lack of recent updates.
Still playing the stan james poker account but to be honest even the small cash game limits appear to be full of rocks, balance is very steady but game is to tough for me so will withdraw tommorow.
Have recently started playing on Mansion Poker and boy it appears very very weak at the 0.50-1 limits. Not that busy but there you go. Tonight i have just finished playing the $100k tourney on mansion and finished 17th out of 600+ runners :)
Initial annoyance is replaced by pride and a feeling that perhaps mtt's could be my thing? Like the live experience i explained in the last update, i think i only made one mistake throughout tonights tournament and went out in slightly unfortunate circumstances (wont bore you)
New challenge will be to play cash on mansion with the aim being to play the $100k guaranteed on mansion every day i can if the buy-in has been made on cash during the day.
All the best to everyone.

DISCIPLINE MAN FFS
never mind at least no loss was incurred, and an ante post bet was landed today (brentford to get relegated) luton are set to follow and those 2 will be big additions to my bankroll in a month or so.

LEEDS , WBA + PETERBOROUGH
have backed all 3 in win singles, have backed over 2.5 goals in the leeds game to cover my win stake, and any unquoted in the peterborough game (11-1ish)
Hopefully this should provide a winning day for me, also have a look at GAZZAS GIRL in the irish grand national at about 20-1
good luck all

Solid Week - Live Poker debut?
Good evening all,
Sorry for lack of updates, i am not going to update just to summarise how much money i won/lost every day thats boring and im sure people arent that interested tbh.
I have had a solid week online with my racing and sports bets, i have had a lumpy bet on tiger at the start of the week which is looking ok now. I think he will win from here.
Bit of an "off the cuff" decision was made yesterday afternoon. My brother told me he was playing the £200 freezeout at our local casino (brighton rendevous). I thought lets give it a go even though i was a bit dubious at such a high buy in for pretty much my first live tournament.
Anyway 120 runners or so and i ended up 13th. This result has actually given me confidence in my poker game. When i first arrived i was concerned about feeling out of place amongst what turned out to be a table of pro players, i wasnt and in my opinion only made one error in the 7 hours or so playing time.
This made me think that maybe my actually game wasnt as bad as i have made myself believe, the difference being that some of the tilty plays i would have made online i wouldnt have dreamt of making live. I played good solid aggresive poker and got my chips in at all times ahead.
Were to go from here? Well i have started with a very small seperate bankroll on stan james for poker only. Playing tourneys and very low level cash to try and show myself i can consistently play like i did last night over a 6 month period.
THIS WEEKS HERO'S
ODIHAM (RACEHORSE)
SOUTHAMPTON (FOR FINALLY WINNING WHEN I HAVE BACKED THEM)
THIS WEEKS HASBEEN'S
Referee HAMER (for spoiling a bookings win on the spurs uefa cup game after a very good start)
POCKET FOURS (for knocking me out of last nights tourney)
All the best to everybody

Another day another dollar?????
Hi all
Yesterday involved a few losing bets on the horses and one winner on the footie (Denmark vs Germany) which was pleasing.
Today has been quite turbulent but has ended in a slight loss (minature stuff) had quite a few hit the bar bets on the horses which is the way it goes.
Looking forward i have contacted betfair and got the poker client banned on my account. I have been kidding myself that i can live with the stakes i have been playing at over any period of time. I have also found myself playing pots of high value, this is a strange dilemma as i have no problem putting such amounts on football matches and horse races. Maybe i have just been out of my comfort zone in poker , anyway no more poker for me , maybe i will come back to it maybe i wont. If i do i will have to learn a lot more about the game and develop my game to live with some on the sharks on betfair.
Girlfriend has comeback from the states today :) As well as being good for obvious reasons after a month away :) It will also help me to spend less evenings wondering what to do and ending up playing poker and normally losing any profits made. The last month has made me realise i think how sad your life could become if all your pretty much doing 16 hours a day is betting related, it becomes pretty tiresome after a while.
On a + side to finish my rakeback for this months poker losses due in a couple of days should be massive :)

Oh My God, but overall a good day
Hi everyone
Thanks first of all to uk gatsby for putting my link on his excellent blog, i have added his blog to my links please check it out. I have known gats since he used to play the us nags a few years he is now a very very good lower stakes online poker play and writes a very good blog.
Well a tiring day , racing provide very good profit with 2 bets and one obiliging at 8-1ish on betfair.
I played a sit n go on betfair and went out with ak all in against jacks on the bubble, played with support of my mentor and this helped greatly.
Just gone in as a short stack on a 5-10 table (mistake to start with) play really really well and double up, i then call with 8 9 suited and the flop is 6 7 10 rainbow. I bet the pot , i get re raised all in by 2 other players, i simply have to call.
Turn is queen , river is king. Player a has trip aces and loses, player b has a king high straight (loose call you could argue on flop) and i lose with the nuts on the flop. I feel very annoyed but i didnt reload and you have to take these things on a chin.
Perspective says a good day but a $4k pot would have rounded it of nicely :)

Hello all why am i doing this????????
Hello everybody and anybody who ends up reading this.
Its jbarnes from betfair here, if you are reading this and you read/post on the forums you will be thinking one of 2 things,
a, (horse racing forum) hes not a bad judge on horse racing , seems a nice guy.
b, (poker forum) he can play well but if we stay around long enough he will give me his stack to me with a very bad call, then he will reload and play stupidly.
My main problem at the moment is discipline and not treating the cash i win with any respect whatsoever.
Here are three ground rules i must follow :
1. Stop playing high limit cash poker/heads up, in reality my poker game is ok at best and i have a lot to learn before i am ready for these limits online with the guys who do it day in day out for a living.
2. Stake within bankroll limits (5% rule on any one bet) at all times
3. Deposit limits set on all online betting sites i use (already done) to help prevent chasing losses.
How am i going to improve?
I have been gambling for 5 years now (im 24 yrs old) and the net result is i have nothing gained from it in real terms (housing e.t.c) , that said i am not in any debt due to gambling and i no that in 2 areas horse racing and football i have the skills required to make a living from this game.
I have enlisted the help of a poker player i respect from betfair to analyze my game and help me improve, he has already suggested i diversify into tournament play for a short while in order to broaden my game, this sounds like a good idea to me (and definitely a cheaper one)
How do i crack my discipline issues?
Good question wish i knew the answer any suggestions welcomed :) some good friends on betfair and another site i post my footie tips on have tried to help before, this time i am determined to stay on the straight and narrow so to speak.
What will i post on here?
I wont just be posting interesting poker hands, bets i have won/lost, i will be keeping a regular update on the +/- of my bankroll with every post.
Best of luck and any comments welcomed.
